Derek VanderMolen

I grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I moved out to Minnesota in the fall of 2003 to play hockey at St. John’s University. In my freshman year at St. John’s I felt a strong call to ministry which led me to transfer and finish my undergraduate studies at Bethel University, where I earned my B.A. in Biblical and Theological Studies. Shortly after graduating from Bethel I married my wife Laura in August of 2007 and enrolled in Bethel Seminary in September of 2007 and am currently pursuing my M.Div. I received a commission in the United States Navy as a chaplain candidate program officer in June of 2009 and became a licensed minister in the Covenant in the fall of 2009. I am passionate about ministering to children, serving the body of Christ, and advancing God’s kingdom. My hobbies include hunting, fishing, hiking, travel, and sports. My favorite Bible verse is Matthew 6:33, “But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.”
