Luke 1:46b-55; 2 Samuel 7:18, 23-29; Galatians 3:6-14
By Phyllis Lundin

Have you wondered, as I have, how God’s plan of love and salvation has withstood the test of time? These passages mention Abraham, David and Mary who were challenged with the call of God to offer themselves. They accepted the challenge with humility and joy. Through many generations, in between them and after them, there must have been at least a handful of people faithful to God’s call.

Galatians 3:14 sums it up this way:  God’s purpose is therefore plain: that the blessing promised to Abraham might reach the GENTILES through Jesus Christ, and the Spirit become available to Us All by FAITH. (Phillips Translation)

Yes, we are among those Gentiles who have now heard and must make our own decision to follow Christ.  We are on the threshold of celebrating the birth of Christ–He who fulfilled God’s plan with His death and resurrection so that we by faith can have eternal life.  Our prayer should be that we will be faithful to whatever call God gives us in our generation.  Might we also do it with JOY as Mary does in the Luke passage.  See also page 495 in our Covenant Hymnal.
