I'm New!

Welcome from Pastor Colleen

Welcome! We’re so glad you’re here.

What type of church is Bethlehem?

Bethlehem is an Evangelical Covenant Church (read our core values here) in the heart of the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis. We exist to point people to God so that they can love one another well. We invite you to be a part of our family that is seeking to be an open door to the community, a place to find courage and rest as we equip you to live a full life following God.

What is the service like?

We usually offer two services (traditional and contemporary) but are currently running one blended service at 9:30 AM. This service features a contemporary worship band, our (newly refurbished) organ, and the church choir that sings a variety of styles. We also follow the liturgical calendar for scripture each week. Don’t worry – we won’t make you stand up, give a speech, or beg for your money.

Covid Protocols

While we all look forward to putting Covid-19 behind us soon, we want to do all we can to offer a safe, comfortable environment to all of our church community.

We are meeting in person Sunday mornings for Worship and for all other normal church activities.

We continue to monitor and follow all guidance from the State of Minnesota #StaySafeMN.

We strongly encourage face coverings for everyone attending church activities in person and for people to keep respectful distance from one another.

We are all in this together!

What should I wear?

You are welcome to wear what makes you feel comfortable. You’ll find that our congregation attends in jeans and T-shirts, as well as dresses and slacks – but we’re not focused on what you wear.

What is there for my kids?

We’re so glad you asked! After our singing and a brief children’s message during the service, many of our kids leave for a time of play, teaching, and an activity that supports the message from the pastor. This space is led by a staff member and/or lay leader. If your family desires to have your child stay during the entire worship service, we want to support you! There are worship bags and other kid-sized activities right outside the sanctuary for you to use while you’re at Bethlehem. We also offer nursery care for kids birth – age 2 during the service.

What happens after the service?

There are several ways to connect after the service depending on your needs.

  • All children are invited downstairs for “Play and Pray,” a supervised time where kids can get their wiggles out as well as learn how to build conversations with God.
  • All adults are welcome to “Sunday Circle” in the community room after service. We offer a variety of studies and subjects, as well as spiritual practices, during this adult community time.
  • And sometimes, we just need to grab a hot beverage and hang out. If you need some unstructured time, coffee and treats are offered after the service for informal conversation.
  • Children are welcome to grab a treat or play outside at the park.
