Holy Week at Bethlehem

holyweek The palm branches we waved on Sunday have already begun to wither, as our journey toward the cross commences. On Thursday evening, we will gather around tables to wash one another’s hands and serve one another the Bread and Cup of Holy Communion, remembering our Lord’s last supper with his disciples. Maundy Thursday worship begins at 7 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Good Friday brings us to the retelling of the story we began on Palm Sunday, as we extinguish candles one by one in a service of Tenebrae (shadows). This service ends in silence, after all symbols of worship have been removed from the sanctuary, and the cross has been shrouded. Holy Saturday is a day of silent preparation. There are no worship services scheduled for Holy Saturday at Bethlehem.

But Sunday morning tells a new story! We celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ with joyful shouts of “Alleluia!” at 8:30 (contemporary) and 11:00 (classic) worship. At 9:30 am, we gather again in Fellowship Hall, to enjoy Easter Brunch served by our youth (an offering to pay for the food helps support the youth group’s summer trip). Younger children can participate in the Easter Egg Hunt after brunch.

You are welcome to join in Holy Week Worship at Bethlehem Covenant Church!
